Wild Take Game 3, Beat Stars 5-3
- Updated: April 18, 2016
Without top forward Zach Parise and already down 2-0 in their series against the Dallas Stars, the Minnesota wild were looking for anything to give them some life heading into game 3 at home. And they did. After only scoring 1 goal in the first 2 games of the series, the Wild found the back of the net 5 times, defeating the Stars 5-3. Chris Porter, Erik Haula, and Mikko Koivu all scored 1 goal, while Jason Pominville put up 2 goals in the win. The Stars received 2 goals from Patrick Sharp, and 1 goal from Colton Sceviour.
The Stars started the scoring early, with Sharp scoring just 26 seconds into the first. Defenseman Alex Goligoski intercepted a clearing attempt by the Wild, and shot the puck from along the boards. Sharp was able to keep an eye on it and tip it down past Devin Dubnyk. Sharp found the back of the net under 5 minutes later. This time Sharp skated into the zone and fired the puck past Dubnyk, beating him for the second time, and putting the Stars up 2-0 early in game 3. The Wild found the back of the net with under a minute left in the first, as Porter deflected a puck past Kari Lehtonen. After a shot by Haula, Porter was able to just get a stick on the puck and tip it into the goal, cutting the lead to just 1.
In the second, the Wild were able to find the back of the net twice, as Haula and Pominville both were credited with goals. Pominville skated into the zone and shot the puck, a shot that was deflected off of Haula and into the net, tying the game at 2. Pominville would them get himself a goal, scoring off of a rebound of a Nino Niederreiter shot. Pominville buried the rebound opportunity, giving the Wild the lead with under a minute left in the 2nd period.
In the third, Koivu gave the Wild a 2 goal lead, scoring 7 minutes into the period. Koivu grabbed the puck in front of the net and took a backhand shot that just trickled past Lehtonon, extending the lead. The Stars would make it a 1 goal game again on a goal by Sceviour. Defenseman Jason Demers shot the puck, which was deflected by a Wild defender before hitting Sceviour in the chest and going into the net. The goal was reviewed for goaltender interferecne, but none was found, resulting in a good goal. Pominville would score the empty net goal with just over a minute left to clinch the victory.
