DALLAS-The Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues met in a do-or-die Game 7 at American Airlines Center on Wednesday.

This was the first Game 7 the Stars played at American Airlines Center. Home ice belonged to Dallas, but the contest was in favor of St. Louis.

Goaltender Brian Elliott would start in goal despite being pulled in the Blues’ 3-2 loss in Game 6 at Scottrade Center. Elliott allowed three goals on seven shots.

The Blues jumped out to an early lead and never let go. Elliott allowed just one goal in the third period.

Alex Goligoski was called for roughing Vladimir Tarasenko. The Blues received their first power play of the night and capitalized on it.

Robby Fabbri roofed a backhander over the right pad of Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen on a scramble in front for a power-play goal, giving St. Louis a 1-0 lead 5:23 into the first period.

Paul Stastny slipped a shot under the glove and left pad of Lehtonen from a tough angle, putting the Blues up 2-0 at 18:22.

Just 1:36 later, Patrik Berglund wristed a long shot past Lehtonen from the blue line to make it 3-0 St. Louis.

The Blues led the Stars 3-0 after 20 minutes.

David Backes received the pass on the rush and fired a shot past the blocker of Stars goaltender Antti Niemi, extending the visitors’ lead to 4-0 with his sixth postseason goal 3:50 into the second period.

Troy Brouwer sent one past the glove of Niemi, finishing a tic-tac-toe play to expand the Blues’ lead to 5-0 at 15:06.

St. Louis led the Stars 5-0 after 40 minutes.

Dallas finally got on the board, as Patrick Eaves one-timed a deflection off the skate of Joel Edmundson past Elliott, reducing the deficit to 5-1 at 5:15 of the third period. But the Blues already put the game out of reach.

Tarasenko added an empty-net goal at 15:20 to seal the scoring, 6-1, for St. Louis. Tarasenko made a great individual effort to control the puck and score on the empty net.

The Blues defeated the Stars 6-1 in Game 7 to win the Western Conference Second Round series and advance to the Conference Final for the first time since 2001.

Elliott made 31 saves for St. Louis. Lehtonen made five saves on eight shots for Dallas, while Niemi made eight saves in relief.
