TSJ 101 Opinion: Thoughts From The Chubby Guy LI: No, Not From “Long Island”

Good morning, dear readers, this is your long lost wrestling writer, Gregory Black, back after two weeks of no…“Thoughts From The Chubby Guy”? Well, I have had plenty of thoughts in these last two weeks, about life, love, my health, and family. You see, the week before was the one year anniversary of the passing of my good friend, and brother in arms, Rudolph “Sucio Blackafellow” DeWindt. With that coming up, it was a hard pill to swallow, but, it is now that thinking about him not being around doesn’t bother…as much.

In these last couple of weeks, I have also managed to return to the gym, working towards losing weight, and getting stronger, if for no other reason, than for three beautiful little girls whom I love more than anything in the world, my nieces.

Thoughts From The Chubby Guy - My nieces and me

Myself and my three beautiful nieces

Yes, that is me at Planet Fitness, their schedule happens to work for me, simply because of my hectic work schedule (I work nights), and by the time I get out of work, well, nothing else is open, so, since they are 24 hours, it just seemed like the right choice.

And by the right choices, I have also made it my purpose to start reevaluating a lot of decisions that I have made in these last few years, more recently, the last five. And, to be honest, while there weren’t many bad decisions, the few that were present were big enough to affect me on all levels: mental, physical, ethical and emotional. I would go so far as to say that when it came to certain instances in which I allowed individuals to take room in my life that I normally wouldn’t, my judgement was clouted, for whatever reason.

These days, I no longer have that problem, mostly because of the examples of those who have wronged me in the past, which has helped me to keep a good eye on who I can and cannot trust. Odd as that may sound, especially since this is a sports site, and well, this…is a SPORTS website, not an online journal…Then again, I did state in a previous TFTCG that this was a pseudo personal journal for me, and, well, the management for the site essentially agreed with it, so… There’s that, “Thoughts From The Chubby Guy” is a personal journal (wink wink), on a sports site. Hardy Har Har.

But, let’s get back to business, there have been a lot of things that have gone on in the sports and entertainment worlds, from the draft, to the NHL and NBA playoffs, to several notable deaths in the music, film, and wrestling industries. From Doris Roberts, to Chyna, to Prince, Percy Sledge, it has been a whose who of names that have gone on in 2016, and in such a short time, with the four aforementioned names passing within a three day span.

To say that losing so many personalities in such a short time is quite mind boggling, and to be honest, isn’t too surprising, I mean with Roberts and Sledge, they were up there in age, lived full lives, and died of natural causes. In the cases of Prince and Chyna, their deaths were unfortunate circumstances, and with what was apparently contributing factors of narcotics (legal narcotics, by the way), with both of them having had health issues leading up to their deaths. Prince was suffering with the flu, while Chyna was suffering through depression, both trying to get healthy, and, unfortunately, were unable to do so.

Their passing sent shock waves across the world, and millions have felt great loss, but, the world, as it must, moves on, and things go on, as is with life, the best way to honor those who have passed is to keep the memories that made us happy fresh in our minds and in our hearts. That is how I choose to honor those who were near and dear to me, and I know that I am not alone in handling it in that way.

And one way that the world is moving on, if you haven’t been living under a rock, is with the NHL and NBA, both of which have been on fire as of late, especially since we are in playoff season for both leagues. Right now, we are down to the remaining eight teams in the NBA playoffs, with Miami and Toronto, Cleveland and Atlanta, Golden State and Portland, and Oklahoma City and San Antonio all vying for the championship, and, let’s be honest, there are a good number of match-ups we are all looking forward to, especially the inevitable match of LeBron vs Curry in the Finals. Yes, folks, I am calling this as the NBA Finals match up, the Golden State Warriors vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers, and yes, me thinks it’ll go seven games. Do I see a repeat? It’s possible, but, with the Cavs big three healthy, if they can stay healthy, that might not be the case. Besides, King James getting another ring is another one of those inevitable situations that is just expected to happen.

On the NHL side of things, the final eight teams there, San Jose and Nashville, St. Louis and Dallas, last season’s champs Tampa Bay and the New York Islanders, and Washington and Pittsburgh (who beat my personal choice, the Rangers, so, I hope they lose, yeah, I said it), and crazy enough, each match up has one team up two games to one. I don’t have a favorite in this one, but, if I had to pick a team to win it all, I would have to say I would like to see the Isles win it and bring it back to NYC. Though, I think it may wind up with the San Jose Sharks winning it all. There has been a push by that squad in the recent years, and I believe that they will make it happen this season.

Now, baseball season is still fresh, but, definitely in full swing, and… My Yankees are in LAST PLACE IN THE A.L. EAST?! My goodness, I know they usually have slow starts, but, their wins aren’t even in double digits, what the hell?! C’mon guys, what are you doing? I mean, you have had your slow starts before, losing scores of games, but, by this time of the month, they would at least have more than 8 or 9 wins by the month of May. Something they have yet to accomplish. Us Bombers’ fans are, needless to say, unhappy by this, but, I think this month, they will pick it up, because, if for no other reason, they are the Yankees, and getting back into it is what they do. It is what they will eventually do, just have to give them time to do it.

As for the wrestling world, well, to go slightly into the current scope of the wrestling realm, well, at least with the WWE, the AJ Styles/Roman Reigns story is getting interesting, especially after Reigns’ successful defense at Payback this past Sunday. I am really looking forward to seeing where this feud will go, and hope that it doesn’t get old or stale. And speaking of Payback, from the few matches I was able to watch (before my internet problems took over), and to be honest, the fall that Enzo Amore took in the opening match, where he and Big Cass took on The Vaudevillains, looked pretty bad, but, thankfully, he was able to recover, after being knocked out from hitting his head on the ring as hard as he did. Hopefully he will be safe in his upcoming matches after all that.

My, oh my, I have been typing this up for some time, the sun wasn’t even up when I started this article, and now, well, it is, while hidden behind rain clouds, as it is raining heavily here in NYC. Weather that I enjoy, as long as my feet stay dry, heh, but, I must be going, dear readers, as I have a long day ahead of me (after getting some sleep, of course), and, a gym day, which is much needed. So, to you all, I say thank you, for not only reading my articles and putting up with my opinions, but, also choosing us as your choice for sports news and media.

And, again, I do apologize for taking so long to write “Thoughts From The Chubby Guy”, but, I will make sure that I will keep up posting these opinion pieces for all of you, and you can only find them here, on ThaSportsJunkies101.com. An awesome site, an awesome writing team, and a great group of people to work with.

So, until next time, dear readers, this is Gregory Black, wishing you a great day, an easy going rest of your week, and a very relaxing weekend. Enjoy your day, ladies and gentlemen.
