NASCAR

This weekend, NASCAR’s finest head to Pocono Raceway for the Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400. This is the 14th race of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. In last year’s running, Martin Truex Jr. collected his only win of the season by edging out Kevin Harvick

Speaking Of Winning: Last years winner Martin Truex Jr. just flat out dominated last week’s Coca Cola 600, leading all but 8 laps to do so. Truex carries unheard momentum into his Spring Pocono title defense with the almost unstoppable TRD/JGR development combination. Can he defend his magic from last year?

Weather Or Not: Rain in the forecast all weekend plans to reek havoc on both the Cup and inaugural XFINITY Series race. The Cup race alone has a 100% chance of thunderstorms as of the writing of this preview and a delay or even a Monday race isn’t out of the question.

Chase Picture Heats Up: Eight Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup bids remain halfway through the regular season.
The drivers who have locked up berths via wins are Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex, Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin. If the season ended today, the eight other drivers who would make NASCAR’s playoffs on points are Kurt Busch, Chase Elliott, Joey Logano, Austin Dillon, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jamie McMurray, Ryan Blaney and Ryan Newman.

Can Kenseth Carry JGR Again At Pocono?: Matt Kenseth enters Sunday’s Axalta ‘We Paint Winners’ 400 at Pocono as the track’s summer race winner and riding a three-race top-10 streak (fourth, Kansas; first, Dover; seventh, Charlotte). The No. 20 Toyota driver’s win at Pocono last August marked his first win in 32 starts at the Tricky Triangle. He has four top fives, 12 top 10s and an average finish of 15.2 there.

Below is some NASCAR Fantasy advice for the “We Paint Winners” 400 and the drivers to consider and to avoid:

Drivers To Consider: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Larson

Drivers To Avoid: Trevor Bayne, Aric Almirola, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart, and Kasey Kahne

Potential Sleepers: Greg Biffle, Jamie McMurray, Clint Bowyer, Austin Dillon and Ty Dillon

The Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400 at Pocono Raceway starts Sunday at 1:00pm PM on FS1
