Oracle Arena will be the site of game one of this years NBA finals to the surprise of very few if any. Tonight, the LeBron James, led Cleveland Cavaliers begin their attempt to un-crown the regular season Kings, The Golden State Warriors, carrying a record 73 regular season wins in their back pockets.

Technically this is a re-match of last years finals match up that also featured the Cavaliers playing the Warriors but personal wise it couldn’t be any different. Last year, the Cavs were carried on the shoulders of LeBron James after injuries to stars Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving sidelined them for all but one game of the finals. James, playing with a cast of career role players willed the Cavaliers to a game six loss that ultimately crowned the Golden State Warriors as champions. This series will be played with a lot more fire power on Cleveland’s side with a healthy Irving and Love both ready to go.

The Warriors are coming off of an all time series in the Western Conference Finals that saw them battling back from a three games to one deficit against a very talented Oklahoma City Thunder team, ultimately winning game seven at home on Monday night. While this Cavs team will be well rested having last played on Friday when they clinched the Eastern Conference title in Toronto.

In order for Golden State to repeat as champs they will need to command the pace of play and figure out a way to take away the paint while still guarding the Cavaliers, many three point shooting threats. Coach Steve Kerr’s “death lineup” that features Curry, Thompson, Iguodala, Barnes and Green may not be a factor because of the way that Cleveland can also play with a small ball lineup with LeBron James playing the center position at points.

In order for Cleveland to capture its first ever title they will need to continue their success in the paint and open up driving lanes and three point shooting opportunities. The combination of Smith/Shumpert/Dellavedova/irving need to find a way to limit either Curry or Thompson both of which are proven to be deadly and can take over games at any point. On the other end Golden State will have their hands full with trying to contain LeBron James.

This is the series we were all hoping for last year with the games biggest superstars facing off with all of their ammunition ready to fire. This should be a fun one.
