Good morning/afternoon/evening, dear readers, this is your favorite wrestling writer, Gregory Black, and I am here to bring you yet another edition of your favorite (hopefully) morning coffee/lunch time/dinner read, “Thoughts From The Chubby Guy”, or, TFTCG, for short, if you’d like. And today, I would like to speak on something that has had the country in the grips of pandemonium for the last week or so.

On June 12th, the culmination of a deranged man’s evil plot took place, as Omar Mir Seddique Mateen infiltrated the Pulse Nightclub, a popular gay club, and shot over 103 people, murdering 49 in cold blood. The event sparked national outrage, as pro-gun control and anti-gun control pundits would have a war of words over adding sanctions to the existing gun control laws, which depending on the argument you hear, is either too lax, or too stiff.

The events that took place that night also made those who were originally against the LGBTQ Community stand in unison with the community, as this was considered the single most devastating mass shooting committed by a single shooter in the history of the USA.

Families of those who were lost left devastated by the actions of an individual, with whom, as more news seems to be coming out, was a closeted homosexual who felt shame, based on what was taught to him by his family, more precisely, his father, who is a devout Muslim.

Now, if you have been reading this article, or following me on Twitter, you would know that I, for one, am someone who is a supporter of the LGBTQ community, as I have several friends and family members who identify as a member of the community.

I am also one who doesn’t fall for the idea that every Muslim is a terrorist, or a sympathizer for groups like ISIS or ISIL. With a number of followers of the religion ranging in the 3 million mark, I highly doubt that every follower is, well, a terrorist. But, if you listen to mainstream media, and the likes of Donald Trump, they all are, and are eventually planning on our demise.

Now, the media said that Mateen claimed an allegiance to ISIL, and had legally purchased his firearm, and AR-15, even though he was on an FBI watch list as a suspected terrorist. However, if you read independent reports, there is some conflict to the accounts of the story. THAT, I will get to in a moment.

First, it was reported that he, and he alone, committed the act, that he single-handedly attacked the patrons of Pulse, firing a barrage of bullets at the club goers, and police, who returned fire at the assailant. Secondly, he had enough time to check social media to see if the shooting was trending online and call his wife. Thirdly, according to survivors of the attack, he spoke of wanting the US to “stop bombing his country”.

It was even reported that when he confronted two African-American club goers, he told them that he wouldn’t hurt them, since they have suffered enough at the hands of the US.

By 5 AM, it would come to a dramatic end, as SWAT entered the building, using a tank to penetrate the wall of the building, where a gunfight ensued, and Mateen’s life ended. An ending fitting of someone who took it upon himself to take the lives of innocents who chose to live freely, rather than hide in the dark and hide who they truly were.

The events of the evening would bring attention to gun control laws that, in some parts of the country, are incredibly lax. It would also lead to changes amongst opponents of the LGBTQ community, where some changed their stance on the community as a whole.

But, there was also plenty of negativity that came about after the event. And the ugliness of not only some individuals on social media came to light, but, also the ugliness of some religious leaders were revealed by those very leaders. Sickening, disgusting, slanderous and awfully grotesque commentary came from those who are considered leaders of their religious communities, as well as those who are obviously misinformed about a group of people who are just trying to live their lives as normally as everyone else.

One such pastor who has said some of the most disgusting trash I have ever read is Pastor Roger Jimenez of Verity Baptist Church. To read you a quote or two of his, the first two from the videotaped sermon the day after the shooting:

“I think Orlando, Florida, is a little safer tonight.”

“The tragedy is more of them didn’t die…. I’m kind of upset he didn’t finish the job!”

In the Youtube video, which has since been removed, as it violated Youtube’s TOS policy against hate speech, he also went on to say that if it were up to him, gays and lesbians would be lined up against a wall for a firing squad, where they could “blow their brains out”.

In an interview with the Sacramento Bee, Jimenez claimed that his sermon was not a call for violence against gays and lesbians, and said this equally disturbing comment:

“All I’m saying is that when people die who deserve to die, it’s not a tragedy.”

Needless to say that he wasn’t the only pastor to say such filth, but, I refuse to post those other comments or videos, because I do not support hate speech of any kind… Unless it’s against the Red Sox, then, by all means.

Although, I would like to point out that another pastor who said such garbage like Jimenez, Pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church, is an idiot, a bigot, and should never be allowed to lead anything. And I am leaving it at that.

Now, I have given you the “WHAT” of the news story, as a journalist should, now… Let’s get to the thoughts, shall we?

Here is my first issue: Mateen was said to be on a terrorist watch list, which is something I believe both the FBI and the CIA have access to. And yet… He was able to get a gun… Legally?! Now, pardon me for playing devil’s advocate here, and no, this isn’t me trying to be some kind of tool for the tools in the NRA, but, it has to be asked. HOW in the HELL did this man, who was not only on an FBI watch list, but also on a no fly list, able to legally purchase a gun?! I believe that being on both lists would fall somewhere under this ruling:

It is illegal and punishable by up to 10 years in prison for the following people to receive, possess, or transport any firearm or ammunition:

  • someone convicted of or under indictment for a felony punishable by more than one year in prison, someone convicted of a misdemeanor punishable by more than two years in prison, a fugitive from justice, an unlawful user of any controlled substance, someone who has been ruled as mentally defective or has been committed to any mental institution, an illegal alien, someone dishonorably discharged from the military, someone who has renounced his or her U.S. citizenship, someone subject to certain restraining orders, or someone convicted of a domestic violence misdemeanor.

He was reportedly known as someone who had a violent streak, it was in his personal record, so how could this maniac have gotten his hands on a firearm? Well, if you have listened or read some of the independent reports on the situation, he was supposedly able to purchase his guns from a retired NYPD officer. Much like how people can just get a gun at gun shows, an individual doesn’t necessarily have to conduct a background check to sell off a firearm.

That is what the mainstream media and pro-gun control supporters refer to as “the gun show loophole”.

Much like how I have said in the past about how gun control laws will only affect those who follow the laws and not those who don’t, certain changes do need to be made, and this has even been said by responsible gun owners, who are members of the NRA.

But, those laws need to be applied to those who sell illegally, the guy on the street who just wants to get rid of his automatic should face harsher punishments than the guy who owns the gun shop and can do background checks. The person who illegally gets his firearm should be the one facing harsher punishments than the person who went the legal route, going through a background check, shooting range to properly handle a firearm, and went through the waiting period (which in some places REALLY need to be made longer) to receive their firearm.

I would even go so far as to say that the companies who make and sell firearms should not face harsh punishments, simply because of the fact that they are not responsible once the weapon is out of their possession.  But, then again, they do promote the very same firearms that they promote to the military to the every day citizen, only slightly changing the models from automatic to semi-automatic. So, there’s that.

But, getting back to the point at hand, it should have been practically impossible for him to have gotten his firearms legally, so, unless he really did utilize the loophole, there is no way possible he should have been able to get his hands on a gun by legal means.

It should have been virtually impossible.

My second issue is this: according to some independent reports, Mateen was not the only shooter, in fact, there were apparently two others who were there helping Mateen shoot at the patrons of the club. However, networks like CNN and Fox News came out with their own reports, saying that some of the victims may have been caught in the crossfire between Mateen and the police.

Now, if that is the case, then it is unfortunate that more people were potentially slain by those who came to save their lives, but, when you take into account those who came forward to say that there was more than one shooter, you start to kind of question whether or not the cops missed something. Or, a couple of someones.

But, how do you miss two extra shooters? Why hasn’t any CCTV footage come out to disprove the three shooter story? Surely, there were cameras in the nightclub, and with the influence of the media and law enforcement, they could easily show that it was in fact just Mateen committing the act alone.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, or anything, but, something just doesn’t add up.

Maybe we will get the footage in the coming days, because there are still a few investigations going on pertaining to the entire situation, so, it is still relatively early to start saying something is kind of shaky.

But, that brings me to my third issue:

I purposely chose to share this link at the exact time I did because something was brought to my attention just days after the shooting.

Before I go into this, I’m going to say this, I am about to sound like a conspiracy theorist… AGAIN! But, before you judge, really pay attention to the footage from the night in question. Ask yourself why, if the shooting took place at the club, would the victims of the shooting run BACK towards the club? If you really look at the video, the camera is set in a grassy area, across the street is a stand-up MRI facility, next to it is a Dunkin Donuts. Across the street from DD is Pulse.

Now, it is very possible that the victims being carried could have run away, as their adrenaline could have numbed the pain, and activated in a “fight or flight” kind of mode. It is VERY possible. Very logical. But then, you have to wonder about the positioning of the camera, and the direction that the victims were running from. Why run from the police and medical personnel who were waiting to treat those who were hurt?

On this, I am really half and half on it, because it has the makings of a false flag attack, and if you are wondering about what a false flag is, it is a situation that is thought up, and followed through, in order to get an agenda passed.

In this case, look no further than the aforementioned gun control scenario, along with the anti-Muslim rhetoric and sentiment that a good number of Americans, Donald Trump included, like to spew and try to influence other Americans with, and it starts to make sense.

A deranged man, who comes from a Muslim family, who may or may not have been a closeted gay man, manages to get his hands on an AR-15, along with other guns and a crap ton of ammo, storms into a nightclub he frequented, and started to open fire on the club goers who were just there to have a good time. And the heroes come in, after an intense struggle with said shooter, finally overwhelm the man, and save the day.

It has the makings of a decent movie, if Hollywood could ever get their stuff together. But, unfortunately, this is real life, real lives were lost, and if this was all to push an agenda, then it would be an even greater tragedy than originally thought, because it meant that those who wished to push an agenda thought their agenda was much more important than a human life.

My final issue, my final gripe, is with the select morons on social media who gave praise to Mateen, and shade to the victims. Now, I understand having a dark sense of humor, hell, even I have a bit of a dark sense of humor, but, there is a place and a time to joke about certain things, and there are still things that you just SHOULDN’T make jokes about.

The Orlando Shooting, I would think, would be one of those things, considering that it just happened, people were senselessly cut down in cold blood. These were real people, not people in a video game, not fictitious characters in a book or a movie, these were real, living, breathing human beings whose only real crime, is probably paying too much for their drinks that night.

But yet, we have a bunch of fucktards on Twitter and Facebook, who thought it was absolutely hilarious that gays were killed. Even sadder is that there were some who said that because being gay was against their religion, that they thought the shooter was the real victim, and not the 103 people who were gunned in that club. And, of course, because they are lied to by religious dickheads like Pastor Jimenez and Pastor Anderson, they believe that those in the LGBTQ community are “perverts and pedophiles”, yet, have no real grounds to make that asinine judgement.

For fuck‘s sake, people, why don’t you actually talk to people in that community? Get to know them, find out first hand that none of them are pedophiles, and that they are probably even less perverted than any of those who judge them.

Oh, and should I go into the Islamophobia that represents the other side of the spectrum? You know, the kind of stuff that actually inspires those who would never think of harming another human being into joining the likes of ISIS and ISIL? Perhaps having those, like Trump, whose rhetoric has the kind of effect that will make logically thinking, normally functioning people into ravenous, blood thirsty nationalistic hordes.

Hmm… Why does that sound familiar?

I digress, this isn’t about Donald Trump, this isn’t about Pastor Jimenez or Anderson, this is about a man who, for the sake of argument, and according to the FBI, was self-radicalized, mentally unstable, inherently conflicted by both his religious upbringing and his internal desires, and lashed out on those whose internal desires matched his own.

At the end of the day, it was the ultimate example of a personal meltdown that led to extinction of 49 individuals who will never share a memory with their loved ones, never celebrate another birthday. Never feel love again. And that is a tragedy that we all mourn.

So, to the families of those lost, know that we, all of us here at TSJ101, and across the world, are with you in your time of need. Our prayers and thoughts are with you, and we will stand together with you in your time of need. Because, as I have said before, we are all one big family on this planet, this is our home, and things like hatred and bigotry have no place on our home.

This one is for you, the ones lost, may your journeys into the next life be peaceful and full of bliss.
