John Terry to Leave Chelsea at the End of the Season

London, England – John Terry to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, the club confirmed. The 36-year-old will depart his boyhood club after 22 years with the Blues.

Terry made 713 appearances for Stamford Bridge club, making his debut in 1998, scoring 66 goals. He has captained Chelsea 578 times – a club record – but has made just four Premier League starts this season.

“I feel I still have plenty to offer on the pitch but understand that opportunities here at Chelsea will be limited for me,” Terry said.

“Everybody at Stamford Bridge would like to express our enormous gratitude to John and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”

“I’ve always been conscious that I depart at the right time, in the right way, and I feel that the end of this season is the right time for the club and I.”

Terry has yet to decide what he will do after leave Chelsea.  Consequently, “I will decide on my future in due course”, but did add that he will look to prolong his playing career with “a new challenge”.

Terry won the Champions League, four Premier League titles, five FA Cups, the Europa League and three League Cups. Additionally, He is the club’s third highest all-time appearance maker, behind Ron Harris and Peter Bonetti.

Also, Terry was named England captain by Steve McClaren in August 2006, succeeding David Beckham.  He went on to make 78 appearances for his country, scoring six times.
