New Giants Tight End Evan Engram

The New York Giants selected Evan Engram as the 23rd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Engram had an impressive season last fall playing for Ole Miss and will be an asset in the 2017 season for the Giants.

Strengths

Engram had 65 passes for 926 yards in just 11 games at Ole Miss. He set the school record with 162 receptions, 2,320 receiving yards and 15 touchdown catches. Engram’s jaw-dropping 4.42 40-yard dash not only beat all of the other tight ends, but the majority of wide receivers as well. His speed and athleticism will make it difficult to cover him. These numbers quickly sent him to the top of the draft boards.

Weaknesses

At 234-pounds, Evan Engram is small for a tight end. As a result, Evan will have to prove his blocking ability. In comparison to tight ends in the past, like Larry Donnell and Will Tye, he is an upgrade and a potentially strong weapon for Eli Manning. Although, because of his inconsistent catch game and Manning’s unpredictable accuracy, this may cause trouble.

Family Life

Engram’s road to becoming a player in the NFL was not easy. In high school, he got caught up in the wrong crowd and was partying a lot. He said everything changed after a talk with his mother, Michelle Zelina, in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

“Dude, you can do this. You have that dream. But you’re going in the wrong direction,” his mother told him. Engram said that was a life changing moment. Check out the full story of how his family changed his ways here.

In Conclusion

Evan Engram is a player that teams will have to specifically plan for each week. He is both a red zone and deep threat. The Giants wanted to strengthen their offense and that is exactly what they did by picking Engram.
