ROOKIE KYLE LARSON WINS AT MICHIGAN, PICKS UP SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON

It was a constant fight between Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch to keep the top spot, as well as beating Martin Truex Jr after he picked up stage wins in the first and second stages of the race at Michigan International Speedway.

There were 5 cautions on the day, with two of them being for debris. Several cars complained that they were “wrecking loose” throughout the day, including the 1 of Jamie MacMurray on lap 35 and the 48 of Jimmie Johnson with 26 laps to go on stage 2.

PIT ROAD WOES

Both Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin had troubles during their pit stops when their crew had troubles removing the right rear tires, sending them backwards in the lineup for the restart.

Matt Kenseth had issues when he overshot his pit box, not once, but twice, costing him some time on pit road.

STARTING FROM THE REAR

Ty Dillion, Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch all had to start from the rear of the field, all with uapproved body modifications. The 19 of Daniel Suarez had an unapproved tire change, and the 48 of Jimmie Johnson and the 47 of AJ Allmendinger had to start from the rear due to back up cars, the 48 spinning out in practice.

STRATEGY MOVES

The 77 of Eric Jones pitted earlier that other drivers twice, both times out of sequence from the rest of the field. The second time paid off by Jones gaining track position, taking just 2 tires. The 21 of Ryan Blaney stayed out on the last round of pit stops

FINAL LAPS

With 14 laps to go, Clint Bowyer goes up into the wall running 7th, which sets up a restart with 10 laps to go in which Ryan Blaney backs up the whole field, setting up Darrell Wallace getting into the back of Daniel Suarez sending Danica Patrick spinning into the isdide wall. Another tough break for the #10 Tax Act driver and for SHR.
