Miguel Gonzalez Returns To The South-Side In A One Year Deal

Veteran pitcher Miguel Gonzalez returns to the south-side on a one year deal. Gonzalez spent 2016 and most of 2017 with the White Sox before being traded to the Texas Rangers last season in exchange for prospect Ti’Quan Forbes.

Miguel signed a one year deal worth 4.75 million. Last season Gonzalez finished the year with a 8-13 record and a 4.62 ERA. During his time with the White Sox last season, he was 7-10 with a 4.31 ERA.

Adding Gonzalez fills in a spot in the starting rotation for 2018. As the Sox look to continue their rebuilding efforts, Gonzalez will add a veteran pressance to help the younger players such as Giolito, Fulmer and Lopez develop. With Carlos Rodon being injured to start the season, the 2018 starting rotation should look like this: Giolitio, Lopez, Shields, Gonzalez, Fulmer.

The 33 year old right hander is exactly what the Sox need to progress their rebuild. Rick Hahn commented on the signing:

“Bringing (Gonzalez) back not only strengthens the options for our pitching staff but also returns another quality individual to our clubhouse,” – Rick Hahn (White Sox GM)

In a corresponding move the White Sox designated Jacob May for assignment.
