The Magic Continues! The Tribe Pushes Win Streak to 13

The win streak in Cleveland continues as the Indians show no signs of slowing down. A 9-4 win over the White Sox Tuesday night gave the tribe a 11 game lead in the division and pushed their magic number to 14. The Indians win streak is now at 13 in a row and it has definitely come at the perfect time in the season. During the longest win streak in the 2017 season, the tribes run differential has been 93 to 25. With numbers like that on their resume, it’s no surprise Cleveland sits on top of the AL Central.

1st Inning Madness

Although the final score of Tuesday’s game may seem like a blowout, the first inning surely caught many by surprise. In the top half, the Indians jumped all over Chicago by launching two home runs and scoring three. The two home runs were hit back to back by Austin Jackson and Jose Ramirez while Brandon Guyer drove in the other run. The bottom half of the first didn’t fare well for Cleveland however. Since Tribe pitching has been so dominant in this 13 game stretch, 3 runs usually is enough for Cleveland to come out with the win. However, Danny Salazar’s first start back from the DL ended with only 2/3 of an inning pitched. Salazar gave up 4 runs on 1 hit, 2 walks, and a hit batter. It was obvious that his command was absent from the start and his control was all over the place.

Tribe manager Terry Francona was quoted saying “He just had no idea where his pitches were going. He had no feel for his changeup and his fastball was erratic.”

Unbeatable Bullpen

Even with the 4 run first inning from Chicago, Cleveland’s untouchable bullpen once again proved its dominance. The seven relievers that pitched after Salazar combined for 8 1/3 scoreless innings. This dynamic pitching performance was all provided without having to use Bryan Shaw or Cody Allen. It just goes to show how solid Cleveland’s bullpen is from top to bottom. The Tribes bats obviously didn’t stop in the first inning though. Jose Ramirez went on to hit another blast in the 2nd inning which has given him 6 multi home run games this season and 25 overall on the year. Highly praised prospect Greg Allen also delivered a clutch double in the 3rd to drive in Brandon Guyer and Yan Gomes. The last 3 runs came from a deep homer by Yan Gomes in the 9th that sealed the game.

If there is still some magic left in Cleveland, the Indians win streak will continue and they will surpass their franchise record of 14 consecutive wins. 1st place in the AL is still up for grabs and Cleveland seems to have their eye on the prize.

Such a great home-grown rotation! As a Sox fan I am extremely jealous and wish the Tribe well in the playoffs!
