Gaunt Brothers Racing to Attempt Phoenix Start

Gaunt Brothers Racing with driver DJ Kennington will try to make their second start of the season this Sunday in Phoenix. Sponsorship for their Toyota Camry will come from Northern Provincial Pipelines.

Team number 96 and Kennington had a career-best 24th-place effort in the Daytona 500. This run bested the team’s previous high point, in last fall’s Phoenix race.

Kennington, 40, is a 2-time champion in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series in Canada. Of his 63 starts in the 3 national series, 11 have come at Phoenix’s ISM Raceway.

“It’s an honor to once again partner with DJ,” said team owner Marty Gaunt. “We look forward to a successful weekend both on and off the track.”

“I’m thrilled to be back with GBR, in the Northern Provincial Pipelines Toyota Camry at a track I really enjoy,” said Kennington. “Last month in Daytona was a tremendous experience. I got my best Cup finish to date, and now I’m looking for more.”

Gaunt Brother Racing’s entry will be an open car attempting to make the field this weekend. For the previous 2 weeks, there has been an absence of non-chartered cars. Atlanta had zero open entries, so only the 36 chartered teams started the race. In Las Vegas, the only open team was the 55 of Joey Gase.

The second leg of NASCAR Goes West is sure to be action-packed, as Kevin Harvick is looking for 3 consecutive wins at his best track. The Ticket Guardian 500 will be live from ISM Raceway in Avondale, Arizona this Sunday, March 11, at 3:30 EST. Don’t miss a minute of the race on Fox, MRN, or SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
