Will Hometown Heroes Win in Las Vegas?

Both of the Busch brothers, Kurt and Kyle, are 2 of NASCAR’s most accomplished active drivers. They each have Cup Series championships and have become hometown heroes in Las Vegas. With this weekend’s Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, can either one of the Busch brothers win in front of their hometown fans?

The Busch brothers are no strangers to success in Sin City. They each have a pair of poles in the Cup Series (Kyle-2008-2009, Kurt-2010 and 2016), and Kyle has 1 win from 2009. Kyle also has 5 top fives, 6 top tens, and 230 laps led. Two of those top 5 finishes have come in his last 4 starts in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Kurt has had a tougher time tackling the Las Vegas 1.5 mile track. In 16 starts, Kurt has 0 wins, 1 top five, and 4 top tens. In 2016, Kurt did have a 9th place showing in Vegas, leading 31 laps. Kurt’s best finish at his hometown track was 3rd in 2005.

So here’s the big question, can either Busch brother win in Las Vegas this weekend? History gives the nod to Kyle over Kurt, but do not count out either of them.

Kyle Busch will be competing in all 3 races this weekend, running Friday’s Truck Series race as well as the Saturday Xfinity race. Kyle has never won in the Truck Series at Las Vegas and is looking for his 50th career Truck Series win.

Kurt Busch will be at the helm of a Stewart-Haas Racing Ford on Sunday. In both races so far this season, Kurt had been a strong contender, and Stewart-Haas Racing has had lots of speed. All 4 SHR cars finished in the top 13 at Atlanta, with Kevin Harvick winning.

In short, both Busch brothers have a great chance to win in their hometown this weekend. While Kyle has seen success at his home track, both hometown heroes will have incredible determination to win on Sunday.
