DeAndre Jordan trade rumors

We’re a quarter of the way through the season, and so far this year, the Los Angeles Clippers are struggling. They’ve been playing bad enough to where trade rumors are beginning to swirl around their currently best and healthiest player, DeAndre Jordan.

With news that contending teams are inquiring for DeAndre, the Clippers center has hired new representation league sources told ESPN. This comes after two years without an agent for the rebounding machine. So is this a sign that Jordan is on his way out of Los Angeles?

More Details

Jordan, who made his first all-star team last season, has signed with Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management according to ESPN and league sources. Jordan decided to hire Schwartz as his agent to aid him through the journey of his possible departure from the team.

Rumors have been swirling over the weekend since the Milwaukee Bucks reportedly have inquired and have interest in acquiring the defensive-minded center. The most significant part of Jordan hiring Schwartz pertains to Jason Kidd also being represented by the same agent.
Schwartz adds DeAndre to his impressive collection of active NBA clientele that he represents. Other notable players that have Schwartz as their agent include Ricky Rubio, Kemba Walker, Harrison Barnes, Andre Drummond, Nikola Jokic and Kevin Love.

Clippers Slow Start

The Clippers are currently 8-14. The team holds the leagues’ longest losing streak as of December 4th, after losing nine straight games spanning from November 4th through November 21st. The franchise is off to its worst start through 22 games since the 2010-2011 season, when they started 5-17. The poor start has encouraged rival teams to start reaching out to the Clippers front office on the availability of Jordan, league sources told ESPN.

There are several reasons for the franchises underwhelming first quarter of the season. This includes major injuries and lack of team chemistry.

The Clippers recently lost their best player, Blake Griffin, for up to two months with a sprained MCL. The team also lost guard Patrick Beverley for the season. Not to mention that Danilo Gallinari and Milos Teodosic have missed significant time for L.A. as well.

The lack of chemistry has also been a contributing factor to Los Angeles’ struggles. The team only has five returning players from last seasons roster. With several new additions in the offseason, it’s going to take some time for the Clippers to mesh all the new players together.

Why Hire an Agent?

After being without an agent for the past two years, why would DeAndre Jordan hire one now? The hiring of an agent can be a facilitator for teams wondering whether Jordan would have interest in signing with them long-term should they trade significant assets to the Clippers to acquire him.

It’s also Jordan’s first time being involved in trade rumors as a major asset. So guidance from a prominent agent in Schwartz will relieve some of D.J.’s own stress.

So will Jordan be on the move soon? It is unclear yet, but there is certainly speculation that he is on his way out.
