Despite Sloppy End, Falcons Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

To keep their playoff hopes alive, the Falcons had to win this game. It was not going to be easy, especially going to Seattle where the atmosphere is always crazy. They managed to secure the much-needed victory and improve to 6-4. For a second straight week, we were able to see glimpses of the Falcons from last year. The offense looked impressive again, and the defense was everywhere. The game did get sloppy at the end, but the Falcons managed to hang on to the victory. Here are some observations from the Week 11’s Monday Night Football matchup.

Offense Takes Advantage Of Depleted Legion Of Boom

The Seahawks came into this game without Kam Chancellor and Richard Sherman. Atlanta knew this and attacked from the start. Matt Ryan picked on Jeremy Lane all night with Julio and Mohamed. Ryan looked comfortable against the blitz all night and was accurate on most of his passes. The run game was also impressive with Tevin Coleman taking most of the snaps. Terron Ward had some nice runs as well. This offense is turning the corner after looking like they hit a wall at the beginning of the season. If they can keep this up, they could be one of the scariest offenses in the league again.

Defense Shows Up When Needed

The defense was on Russell Wilson all night. They forced two turnovers and were able to capitalize on both. However, they were not able to keep Wilson in check for most of the game. He made many plays with his legs scrambling out of the pocket and making miraculous throws. The defensive line still got after him and made life hard for him. They took advantage of the Seahawks offensive line, which is one of the worst in the league. Grady Jarrett was disruptive all game and came through when the Falcons needed it the most. This defense looks to be getting better every week, and their dominance should continue next week.

Special Teams Still Sloppy

When the Falcons play good in all three phases of the game, it is hard to beat them. The offense and defense did their part, but the special teams played horribly. After the long kickoff run to start the game, their stock went down. Andre Roberts has been inconsistent all year and had a fumble which set the Seahawks up to score. Tyler Lockett had a couple of nice kickoff returns for Seattle. Hopefully, the special teams can get it together, or they will cost the Falcons some crucial games down the stretch.

Bucs Up Next In Week 12

The Falcons have an easy matchup against Tampa Bay this Sunday. Every game from now on is vital if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. If they play as they have been in the last two games, it should not be a challenge to sneak into the playoffs.
