Does Neymar want to leave Barcelona for PSG?

Barcelona, Spain – According to reports Neymar has asked to leave Barcelona amid speculation of a world record transfer to PSG.

The Brazilian forward signed a new five year contract last year with a huge £198 million release clause.

Barcelona have said PSG need to pay the release clause in full to secure the move. Barcelona’s new manager Ernesto Valverde has given the 25 year old permission to miss training and “sort out his future.” Neymar joined Barcelona in 2013 from Brazilian side Santos for around £48 million.

He has scored 105 goals for Barca winning two La Liga titles and the Champions League. Neymar’s decision to leave Catalonia for Paris could be down to him wanting to become the star man of his team. Since the Brazilian moved to Spain he has been somewhat in the shadow of teammate Lionel Messi. PSG believe the acquisition of Neymar will help them reclaim Ligue 1 from Monaco. His arrival could also help deliver success in the Champions League. The proposed transfer would smash the world transfer record.

The current record is £89 million paid by Manchester United to Juventus for Paul Pogba last summer. Neymar’s departure would leave a sizeable hole to fill in Valverde’s squad. The former Athetic Bilbao manager has been linked with a move for Liverpool’s Phillipe Coutinho.
