Premier League

The transfer story of the window has finally come to a close. Alvaro Morata has become a blue instead of a red.

Chelsea today announced the signing of the man everyone thought was certain to be a United player. The fee Chelsea agreed with Real Madrid is £70 Million.

Lukaku goes one way and Morata goes another. One supposed to be blue, turned red. And one supposed to be red, turned blue. The Lukaku/Morata saga is finally over.

What does Morata bring to Chelsea?

Goals. What they signed him for. Morata had the second highest goals to game ratio in La Liga last season. Second only to Messi. 20 goals from a season spent mostly on the bench is phenomenal.

What Chelsea also get with Morata is a replacement for the soon to be departed Diego Costa. The Spaniard has been deemed surplus to requirements at the bridge after a falling out with Antonio Conte.

Who got the better deal? United or Chelsea?

That’s a question that can’t be answered until the season starts. But, from the outside looking in, Lukaku is premier league proven. Lukaku has scored 167 goals thus far in his career, including two for the Red Devil’s since signing. Morata has accumulated 107, which is not bad considering a lot of those goals are from the bench. Only time will tell, but I envision both strikers being near the top of the goal scoring charts next summer.

Chelsea favourites again?

The signings of Bakayoko and Morata have only strengthened what was an already stellar Chelsea side. Bakayoko brings a toughness and a flair that maybe Chelsea didn’t have with Matic last season. With Morata they have someone who is prepared to give their all, something Costa didn’t do at times last year. The stage is set, it’s down to the blues to the business again.
