Philippe Coutinho has today sent Liverpool fans into hysteria by handing in a transfer request.

Philippe Coutinho released the request after Liverpool’s owners came out with this statement earlier today on the official Liverpool website.

Shortly after this statement was released, Sky Sports News HQ reported that Coutinho had handed in a transfer request. Contrary to this, BBC Merseyside refutes Sky’s report and says “Liverpool say it’s not true that Philippe Coutinho has handed in a transfer request”.

The Brazilian, who is 25, has been the subject of two previous bids from Barcelona. The Catalan club are on a hunt to replace Neymar. Ousamane Dembele and Coutinho are their two main targets. With both handing in transfer requests in the last two days.

Coutinho’s career so far

Coutinho signed for Liverpool in January 2013, for €8.5 million. Since signing he has played 138 games for the club, scoring 34 goals in the process. Coutinho has been capped 27 times for Brazil,as well as being named in the 2015 PFA team of the year.

Barcelona have let one Brazilian forward go and are about to sign another. Neymar and Coutinho are the same age at 25 years old. Neymar scored 68 goals during his time at Barcelona, can Coutinho live up to that?

It remains to be seen what will happen in this transfer saga. This window has arguably been the best of the past few years. With a saga around every corner. Ousamane Dembele has been fined and suspended by Dortmund following his failure to show up for training yesterday. The forward was trying to force a move to Barcelona, just as Coutinho is here.
