Argentina fires Edgardo Bauza after bad results, thinks of Jorge Sampaoli or Diego Simeone to replace him

Buenos Aires, Argentina – Argentina Football Federation fired Edgardo Bauza on Monday after bad results just months after taking over.

“Bauza is no longer the coach of the national team,” Claudio Tapia told reporters.

Furthermore, rumors leaked about the dismissal after the loss to Bolivia in La Paz. The 59-year-old succeeded Gerardo Martino in August.

However, Bauza oversaw just three wins in his eight matches at the helm, with the South American powerhouse consequently slipping out of the automatic qualification spots for the 2018 World Cup in CONMEBOL qualifying.

Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli is the leading candidate to replace Bauza. Sampaoli was favorite to take over when Martinez quit as manager.

Sampaoli joined Sevilla last summer and is under contract with the Spanish club until June 2018. However, he can leave this summer if he pays a €1.5 million release clause.

The Argentine FA are also keen to speak with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, but do not expect him to be willing to take over the national team job.

Mundo Deportivo have reported delegated from the FA hope to travel to Spain in the coming days for talks.
