Canadiens Price, Subban Out for Season

Players have not Recovered from Injuries

NHL

MONTREAL-Already eliminated from playoff contention, the Montreal Canadiens really only have to play for pride and jobs in this last week of the season. Two guys who don’t have to worry about their spot on the team won’t have to worry about playing until next season.

The Canadiens announced goalie Carey Price and defenseman P.K. Subban will not return to lineup this season.

Price had been out sine November 25. There had no been real answer as to what was plaguing last season’s league MVP, until today when the team announced Price’s injury.

The 28-year-old suffered an MCL injury to his right knee and it has yet to recover. The team’s head physician, Dr. Vincent Lacroix released a statement discussing Price’s injury.

“Now that Carey Price’s season has officially ended, here is a detailed description of his injury: Carey sustained a medial collateral ligament injury (MCL sprain) to his right knee on November 25th, 2015 in a game against the NY Rangers. The MCL provides support to the inside of the knee and is essential for stability and knee function. Acute, isolated MCL injuries are managed without surgery. Rehabilitation treatments lead to full functional recovery. The recovery process can be long in the case of an elite netminder such as Carey, due to the high demand placed on this anatomical structure by modern goaltending techniques. Although Carey has made excellent progress and is very close to being able to return to competition, he has not presently been cleared to do so. He is expected to make a full recovery over the off-season. This injury was not the same as the one he suffered earlier this season (October 29th at Edmonton), nor in previous years.”

Price had missed a month after getting hurt on October 29th, as referenced in Dr. Lacroix’s statment, but came back in November before suffering the MCL injury that ended his season. He is expected, though, to be ready for training camp, as well as for the World Cup in September.

Subban has been out since March 10 when he suffered a “non-serious neck injury” when teammate Alexei Emelin accidentally collided into him. He has been practicing with the team, but was not cleared to play before the team announced he would not return this season.

The Canadiens also announced that defensemen Mark Barberio (concussion) and Victor Bartley (groin/broken foot), and forward Lucas Lessio (right knee) would miss the final two games of the season.

Montreal closes out their season against the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning.
