Ex-NFL Star Lawrence Phillips Found Dead in Jail Cell

Delano, CA – Troubled ex-NFL star Lawrence Phillips was found dead at Kern Valley State Prison cell. Phillips was facing murder charges and possible death penalty in the alleged murder of his former cellmate the Kern State Prison.

The death is being investigated as a suspected suicide, according to press release from the department. Phillips had been in an Administrative Segregation Unit on single-cell status since April 11, 2015.

Phillips was a star player at the University of Nebraska and bounced around the league through several teams, playing for the St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers until 1999.

After his professional career was over, Phillips was sent to prison after being convicted of assault for driving his car into a group of teenagers. Later on, he was also convicted of assaulting a former girlfriend which led to his 10 years sentence in prison.
