Jason Groome Drafted 12th overall by the RedSox.

Jason Groome out of Barnegat High School has been drafted by the RedSox with the 12th overall pick.

The 6 foot 6 six left-handed was said to be the top pitcher in the draft. In the coming days, it will be interesting to see if Groome signs or decides to go back to school.

He had previously been committed to Vanderbilt University but has since changed his commitment to Chipola College.

By changing colleges, Groome now has the decision whether or not to sign with a big league team. If Justin does not get drafted where he wants, he can simply go to college.

Chipola gives the left-hander a chance to get the majors quicker if he does not sign with a big league club. If he goes to Vanderbilt, he will have to stay in college for at least three years. With Chipola being a junior college, Groome only has to stay for one year.

As far as talent goes, Groome has plenty of it. He has a fastball that can reach 97 MPH and compliments it with a changeup and curveball.

Earlier in his senior, he had a no-hitter erased from his overall stats because of a transfer violation. According to New Jersey’s transfer rule, he must wait 30 days before pitching after transferring high schools. He was transferring from IMG Academy in Florida.

Groome made two starts that will be erased from his stats. One of those was a 19-strikeout no-hitter.

Jason Groome will be a great addition to the RedSox and will likely be playing in the majors in no time.
