Rockies Designate Jose Reyes For Assignment

The Colorado Rockies have reinstated shortstop Jose Reyes from the restricted list. After doing so, they quickly designated him for assignment.

Reyes was on the restricted list after being suspended for violating the league’s domestic violence policy.

The Rockies now have 10 days to trade him, release him, or send him to the minors.

This decision comes after Reyes was arrested on October 31st, 2015 in Hawaii after apparently assaulting his wife. Reyes was suspended through May 31 and charges where dropped before his April 4th trial.

Rookie shortstop Trevor Story also factored into the decision to let Reyes go. He was brought up to fill in while Reyes was suspended and has made the most of his playing time. Story has 17 home runs and has broken a couple of records in his time in the majors.

Jose Reyes is due to make $22 million in each of the next two seasons.

It will be interesting to see what the Rockies do in the coming days.
