Luis Suarez Suspended Two Cup Games For Insults

Copa Del Rey

Barcelona, Spain – Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has been suspended two Copa del Rey matches by the Spanish Football Federation for insulting city rivals Espanyol after a match, on Wednesday, in the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms.

Barcelona is said to immediately proceed to appeal the ban. Should Suarez suspension stand, he will miss the return leg match next Wednesday and a hypothetical first leg of the quarter-finals, should Barcelona qualify.

Espanyol had two players sent off in the loss. They had previously met at Cornella-El Prat stadium last Saturday where heated exchanges had begun.

Goalkeeper Pau Lopez was lucky to escape further punishment in the tie due to a stamp on Lionel Messi that went unseen by referee Juan Martinez Munuera.

The loss of Suarez will be tremendous as he has 21 goals this term in all competitions. The Catalan club will meet against Granada this Saturday.
