Midweek Madness Recap 6/15

SHOW RECAP

On this weeks edition of Midweek Madness, Todd and Rob wanted to give some relief to their listeners who had been overwhelmed with sad stories out of Orlando over the past week. They hoped to make this episode a two hour escape, to get peoples minds off sadness and have some fun.

To start the boys had a very special guest from the Harlem Globetrotters, Chris “Handles” Franklin. Franklin spoke with enthusiasm on what it’s like to be a Globetrotter, how important the organizations mission is, how he always wanted to be a Globetrotter, what it was like to set a Guiness World Record, as well as much more! Be sure to head out and see Handles and the rest of the Globetrotters when they travel to Wildwood, NJ from July 27-30.

Outside of the interview, the boys touched on a lot of topics that took over the sports world during the week. They discussed the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins after they ousted the San Jose Sharks in 6 games. Both hosts felt the championship was deserved, but Rob voiced his displeasure again for the Penguins, stating he refused to feel good for even the likes of Mario Lemieux who many look at as an all around good guy!

Another topic up for discussion was last weeks MLB Draft and the decision the Philadelphia Phillies made to draft Mickey Moniak with the Number 1 Overall Pick. Both Rob and Todd were ok with the pick, although Rob showed a true homer side when saying he would have rather the Phils went with a kid Mike Shawaryn in the fifth, a former high school basketball player Rob coached. The boys also touched on the fall of Jason Groome and Kyle Lewis and who was considered to have the best haul of players.

What has been a constant for the show, the NBA Finals had a big segment on the episode. Rob for the first time every showed a little criticism to Lebron James and even gave one compliment out to Andre Iguodala, however Todd seems to be coming over to the dark side on his boy Iggy! The boys differ in opinions of how Game 6 will turn out, but you will have to listen to hear their thoughts!

To end the show, the boys were excited to finally talk about their favorite NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles, who were in the news this week for some good and bad off the field stories. Todd and Rob discussed the legal issues involving Nelson Agholor and a sexual assault accusation at a nearby gentlemen’s club. Both hosts seemed appalled and hope for a positive outcome to this allegation. The good news they touched on was the contract extension of one Fletcher Cox. The Eagles gave their big playmaking defensive lineman a huge deal, with $63 million guaranteed, with the contract being the biggest to a non-qb in the NFL. Want to know what the boys thought?
