Louis van Gaal Sacked by Manchester United

Manchester, England – Manager Louis van Gaal has been sacked by Manchester United just two days after the Dutchman led the Red Devils to victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.

Van Gaal, 64, took over United on May 19, 2014, replacing David Moyes short reign over the team.

The former Netherlands manager has been given a $7.2 million pay-off on top of $578,822 for winning the FA cup.

United’s poor Premier League campaign and inability to be in Champions League, cost the Dutchman his job.

His Dutch coaching staff – including United assistant coach Albert Stuivenberg and goalkeeper coach Frans Hoek – have also left the club with immediate effect.

Ryan Giggs, long time United legend, will likely exit the club following the release of van Gaal.

Jose Mourinho is being rumored by various British media outlets as the one taking over the reins at Old Trafford following the sacking.

Mourinho’s appointment is expected to be confirmed after the 53-year-old Portuguese meets with senior United officials on Tuesday.

Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea last December, just seven months after leading the London club to the Premier League title.
