Wild’s Vanek to miss Playoff Opener

Forward “likely” to miss more than Playoff Opener

NHL

ST.PAUL, MN-The Minnesota Wild will be in the playoffs for the fourth straight season when the postseason starts next week. They will face either the Dallas Stars or St. Louis Blues in the first round, which will be a tough match up regardless of who they get. What will make it a bit more difficult is the fact that they will be without one of their top veterans to start the series.

Forward Thomas Vanek will miss the team’s playoff opener, at least, while recovering from an upper-body injury.

Vanek has missed Minnesota’s last two games with said injury. Today, Wild coach John Torchetti announced that the 32-year-old will be out for “more than a week.” The playoffs get underway on Wednesday.

Should he return before the series ends, Vanek will look to rebound from a pretty bad postseason last spring. The four-time 30-goal scorer did not find the back of the net in 10 playoff games in 2015 and only managed to tally three assists.

Minnesota and its fans will hope Vanek finds his scoring touch again in the playoffs when he returns. Both the Stars and Blues have offenses that can light you up and the more guys the Wild have on their games, offensively, the better chance they have of pulling a first-round upset.
