WWE and Psyonix Announce Rocket League Partnership

Early Wednesday, the WWE sent out a press release announcing their partnership with Rocket League parent company Psyonix. The company announced that Rocket League will be a presenting partner for the next two pay-per-view events, SmackDown Live’s Backlash, which is this Sunday, as well as Raw’s Great Balls of Fire.

The San Diego, CA based video game developer has signed on to also be a presenting partner for the upcoming WWE Women’s Tournament. Which, like last year’s Cruiserweight Classic, which will have 32 of the top female competitors from over 17 countries; it will be showcased on the WWE Network this summer.

Rocket League is a game that combines soccer with sports cars. Think a demolition derby, with the a giant soccer ball.

It was featured on the popular Youtube channel “UpUpDownDown”; which is hosted by The New Day’s Xavier Woods. Woods, along with a host of other superstars, played the game for six episodes.

Both companies look to this venture as a positive, in hopes of bringing both worlds to new audiences. To read the full press release, please refer to the photos below:

Rocket League is also slated to be a promotional partner for this August’s SummerSlam event; which takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

WWE Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Partnerships, John Brody spoke enthusiastically of the partnership:

“The integrated partnership with Psyonix will provide Rocket League with an opportunity to utilize WWE’s global platforms and reach our passionate fan base, many of whom are avid gamers. 

We look forward to working with Rocket League as we collectively build customized one-stop shopping programs to reach their consumers.”

Psyonix appears happy about the partnership…

Jeremy Dunham, Vice President of Publishing for Psyonix, also shared that enthusiasm, as he was quoted to have said:

“As WWE fans ourselves, we are well aware of WWE’s strong capabilities as a strategic marketing partner. 

WWE has proven time and again that they know how to execute fantastic integrated programming, and with an audience that has similar interests to our own, it was only natural that we team up to see what we could do together.”

Psyonix have stated in the release that their game will be made available at the promotion’s Live Events. Most of which take place across the country. Rocket League will also be promoted on Monday Night Raw, as well as SmackDown Live.

Rocket League boasts a community of over 31 million players, from all over the globe. It is winner of over 150 “Game of the Year” awards. It is also considered to be one of the most critically acclaimed games; possibly of our generation.

The company is known for many classic games; including: Gears of War, Mass Effect 3, XCOM, as well as Unreal Tournaments III and 2004. They also have Enemy Unknown and Bulletstorm in their library.

Available on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, Windows PC, Mac, and SteamOS, via Steam; the game boasts over 100 billion possible customization combos for vehicles. A fully featured offline mode, multiple game types, also casual and competitive online play.

Psyonix also mentioned that in the game there are special “Mutators”; with the purpose of allowing players to change the rules entirely.

It can be expected that the promotion will start on either NXT, or 205 Live tonight.
