Former Number 1 Pick Carson Fulmer Struggling In Triple-A

Chicago White Sox prospect Carson Fulmer has not had a very successful season so far. Fulmer started off the season hot, but has since gone cold. He is 1-4 over his last 10 games with a 6.62 ERA. Over his last ten, he has not had a scoreless outing.

The last 10 games have pushed his season record to 7-8 and a 5.61 ERA. This is definitely not how he wanted the season to go. Many fans expected him to get a call up to the major league team this season, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.

Transition Fulmer To The Pen

Fulmer is currently used as a starter in Triple-A Charlotte, but with the White Sox stacked farm system. finding a spot for Fulmer in a future starting rotation may be tough. With other starting pitchers like Kopech, Giolito, Rodon, Hansen, Dunning and Lopez all looking to play a role in the rebuild rotation, Fulmer’s best option is probably the bullpen.

He has great potential as a setup man. With the rebuild in full swing, and with the number of strong pitching prospects in the White Sox system, naturally, some starters may get transitioned to the pen. Carson Fulmer has the ability to be a strong relief pitcher. His fastball hits the gun around 94 MPH and he has an electric curveball. Even though he may be struggling in Triple-A as a starter he is continuing to develop his cutter and change up pretty well.

The White Sox are likely looking to have Zack Burdi as their future closer. Burdi is currently injured and will be out until spring training 2018. Keeping that in mind, Fulmer has an opportunity to be a strong setup man. Carson could also be a go too long relief pitcher to chew up 2-3 innings when needed. He definitely has the stamina for it as he is currently starting games in Triple-A.

Fulmer left his last game on August 16th early with a leg cramp. The White Sox expect him to be ready for his next start.
