White Sox Pitching Prospect Lucas Giolito To Be Called Up Monday

White Sox pitching prospect Lucas Giolito will be called up for Monday’s double header against the Minnesota Twins. The White Sox will play host to the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field on Monday. It is currently unknown as to which game Giolito will be starting, but it is exciting none the less.

Lucas Giolito is the 59th best prospect on MLBPipline’s top prospect list and number 6 on the White Sox list of top prospects. This will not be the first time Giolito will have been called up though. Giolito did make 4 starts last season with the Nationals. Those 4 starts netted him a 6.75 ERA.

His Last 10 Games

Although Lucas Giolito struggled early this year, he has since rebounded. Over his last 10 games, Giolito has a 4-4 record with an ERA of 3.86. Over those 10 games, he has pitched 56 innings and struck out 59 batters. Two of those losses were short outings and definitely inflated his numbers.

Giolito has had 6 quality starts in a row and seems to be excelling in the minors. At 23 years old, getting a chance to work with Don Cooper, even if it’s for a short time, is a fantastic opportunity. Giolito will join Reynaldo Lopez as the second top pitching prospect to be called up for the White Sox this season.

Giolito has been finding good success with his curveball and it has to lead to good strike out totals. An important thing to note is that Giolito has been going 7 innings in most of his starts over his last 10 games. That shows he has the stamina, and dominance to go for an extended duration. This is important for the White Sox starting pitching that is struggling to make it past 5 innings on most nights.

The Future

Calling up Lucas Giolito is another breath of fresh air for White Sox fans. With Reynaldo Lopez having a solid first outing, and now Giolito coming up it gives fans a chance to see the stars of tomorrow develop in the big leagues today. Giolito has a high ceiling and looks to play a big role in that starting rotation post rebuild.
