White Sox To Call Up Reynaldo Lopez From Triple A Charlotte

The Chicago White Sox are set to call up Reynaldo Lopez from the Charlotte Knights for a start on Friday night against the Royals.  Lopez is the 6th best prospect in the White Sox organization and ranks 59th on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100.

White Sox GM Rick Hahn said that Reynaldo will get the start on Friday and that will transition Mike Pelfrey to the bullpen. Reynaldo has been performing well in Triple A this season. He holds a 6-7 record with a 3.79 ERA and 131 strikeouts.

Lopez’s Performance

Over his last 8 games, Lopez has held opponents to a .193 average and has a 2.70 ERA. Although his most recent start was not spectacular, Lopez gave up 4 earned runs through 5 innings, the Sox have decided to call him up. Reynaldo has been a fly ball pitcher so far in Triple A. Getting most of his outs in the air, 62% fly ball percentage. That could be troublesome in hitters friendly Guaranteed Rate Field.

Although he has the high fly ball ratio, Lopez also has impressive strikeout numbers. He has a total of 131 strikeouts, with 63 strikeouts in his last 46.2 innings. This coupled with his low walk count, 15 in his last 8 starts, show he has been pitching well in the minors.

Lopez has a strong fastball, that can hit upwards of 98 MPH occasionally. His curveball has a strong dive and he will use it as a plus pitch. Although he is a fly ball pitcher, he has controlled the long ball. Lopez has only given up 16 homers through 121 innings.

Friday Nights Game

The Royals have yet to announce who will be starting for them on August 11th. The game will start at 7:10 CT/8:10 ET at Guaranteed Rate Field. Hopefully, White Sox fans will show up in bunches to support Reynaldo Lopez in his home debut.
