Red Sox acquire Rajai Davis from A’s

After Jackie Bradley Jr. went down with a sprained thumb and was sent to the DL. The Red Sox made an interesting trade today. They acquired outfielder Rajai Davis from the Oakland Athletics, we had to have seen this coming. Especially after Bradley headed to the DL, Davis can bring a lot to the Sox. He is a reliable man to have in the outfield to replace Bradley for the time being. He also has a decent bat and he can deliver.

2017 Stats

He is not really having the kind of year he was hoping for, but Rajai Davis has shown that he can be a very productive member of any teams lineup. Even though he doesn’t have the best bat, he surely makes up for it in the field. Davis has good range and with his speed and route efficiency. Makes him an ideal outfielder to fill the gap for Bradley in the time being. He’s only hitting .233 with 5 long balls and just 18 RBI’s in 100 games played on the season. It could be because of the fact that the Oakland A’s place 20th in the league in OBP with a .315.

The Trade

So, by now I’m sure you’re well aware that Davis was traded to the Sox, but who did the Sox have to give up? They dealt Rafael Rincones, one of their Right Fielders. Who hasn’t shown much production this season. He is hitting .258 with only 1 home run and 19 RBIs. The trade seems to be about even for both clubs. The Athletics may get nothing out of Rincones. So, at least the Red Sox know they have an established outfielder to fill the gaps while Bradley is out. After he comes back he could be used every so often at the corners to give others rest.
