Red Sox and Indians Team Up For Wild Finish

Indians vs Red Sox David Shvartsman via

Last night, the Indians and the Boston Red Sox played arguably the best game of the 2017 season. It had everything from sluggers to dominant pitchers. Chris Sale took the mound for the Boston Red Sox and Carlos Carrasco for the Indians. You would think that with those caliber type of pitchers it would be a pitching gem on both sides. It was quite the opposite in fact. Both starting pitchers didn’t even qualify for a win, let a lone two quality starts for each side.

Indians Scoring Plays

The Indians started off the scoring, when Michael Brantley singled driving in Francisco Lindor. The next run for the Indians came on a Carlos Santana double in which Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez were able to score. The Sox were unable to score in the first, and the Indians made them pay. Brandon Guyer hit a long home 2-run home run to left field that gave Cleveland a 5-0 lead. Indians were kept at 5 runs until the 5th when Encarnacion hit a booming 2 run shot to left field to give the Indians a 7-5 lead. The Indians hit four home runs last night and two of them came in the eighth. Carlos Santana and Francisco Lindor both hit solo shots in the eighth to make it 9-9. The final run came on a wild pitch by Craig Kimbrel which gave the Indians a 10-9 lead.

Red Sox scoring plays

The Red Sox went down early but fought the entire way through. Their first runs came in the 2nd inning, when Mitch Moreland launched a 3-run blast to make it a 5-3 game. Then with 1 out in the inning Brock Holt singled to the shortstop. However Lindor was unable to get the out and the run scored making it a 5-4 game. The final run of the inning came on a Eduardo Nunez double, in which Mookie Betts was able to score. In fact Mookie Betts was quiet productive at the plate. In the 6th innings he was able to beat out a ground ball to the third base side. Scoring on the play was Mitch Moreland. They weren’t done yet though three batters later Nunez doubled to left field. Scoring Mookie Betts, Chris Young and Christian Vazquez. Then perhaps the biggest play of the night came in the ninth inning. With 2 outs on a 3-1 count Vazquez launched an absolute no doubter to centre field. Giving the Red Sox a 12-10 win, in what might be the most exciting game of the year.
