Red Sox Drop Two Of Three Against The Yankees

The Boston Red Sox lost two of three against their long time rivals New York Yankees. They won the first game with a score of 5-4. In game two, the Red Sox had more trouble coming across runs as they were shut out and gave up eight runs. Game three was more of the same trouble, only able to score one run on four hits. The Red Sox had trouble converting base runners into runs. Which was a big reason as to why they lost the series. The Yankees were clearly the better team, for now.

Game 1

Drew Pomeranz got the nod for the first game of the series, Pomeranz went 5 innings giving up five runs. Although he did throw a season high 123 pitches. He did however pick up his first win against the Yankees. Craig Kimbrel shut it down in both the 8th and 9th innings. He did, although let a run score on a wild pitch. After that in the 9th he struck out the side, giving Boston the victory. The Red Sox hit three home runs, Mitch Moreland and Hanley Ramirez both hit theirs in the fourth. Then Benintendi hit his eighth home run of the season.

Game 2

Game 2 wasn’t as kind to the Red Sox as game 1 was. Rick Porcello got the start, he didn’t do very good, allowing six runs over 6 1/3 innings. He’s 3-8 on the season with a 4.46 ERA compared to his previous season when he went 22-4 with a 3.15 ERA. Some defensive plays for the Red Sox, when Mookie Betts robbed Chris Carter in the sixth inning. The Red Sox were unable to score a run that game only able to manage five hits while scoring no runs. CC Sabathia was solid stifling the Red Sox hitters every inning, he was out there.

Game 3

Game three was no better than the last, losing by a score of 9-1. More offensive troubles occurred only able to score one run on four hits. David Price made his third start since coming back from his DL stint he didn’t do very good. Only lasting five innings, giving up six runs on eight hits. It’s okay seeing that he just came off the DL in which he didn’t throw much. The only run the Red Sox were able to score was a passed ball that was charged to Gary Sanchez.

The Yankees were clearly the better team in this series scoring 21 runs in three games is hard to beat. The starting pitching wasn’t very helpful giving up a total of 17 runs in three starts. The defense played solid, Mookie Betts made multiple outstanding catches. The Yankees won the series and man handled Boston all throughout. Although the Red Sox are a complete team in all aspects of the game. The next time they face off, which is July 14-17, will also be playing a double header on the 17th. So, lets hope the Red Sox can come back and win the series and even things up on the season.
