Veteran Left-Hander Jaime Garcia Signs With The Blue Jays

Left-handed pitcher Jaime Garcia signs with the Blue Jays in a one-year, $8 million deal. The contract also includes a club option for the 2019 season.

Garcia is coming off a rather disappointing season, in which he started with the Atlanta Braves before being traded to the Twins. He only pitched one game in Minnesota before he was sent to the New York Yankees to finish the season.

Garcia had a 4.41 ERA with 129 strikeouts over 157 innings last year. He finished with a 5-10 record and appeared only once in the ALDS, pitching 2 and 2/3 scoreless innings. His K/BB ratio was 2.02 between all three teams.

Adding Garcia to the rotation means that the Blue Jays rotation now consists of Marcus Stroman, J.A. Happ, Aaron Sanchez and Marco Estrada. However, this move most likely pushes Joe Biagini to the bullpen or moving him back down to Triple-A Buffalo.

Garcia has had trouble staying healthy in the past but provided he is able to do so, he should fit in well at the back end of the Blue Jays rotation.
