Astros Prepare For World Series Game 1

Here we are, as the Astros prepare for first World Series appearance since 2005 in which the Astros were swept by the Chicago White Sox.  The road to get where the Astros are today was not an easy journey going over multiple rebuilds. 2015 was the last time the Astros made the playoffs. Coming in as a Wild Card against the Yankees. The Astros shut out the Yankees moving to the ALDS. To face the soon to be World Series Champs Kansas City Royals. Losing the Series 3-2. The Astros gave the Royals a run for their money, but couldn’t cash in two games in a row.

Pitching Matchup

Game 1 of the World Series always deserve the best of starters, and that is exactly what the Astros and Dodgers have given us. Dallas Keuchel and Clayton Kershaw set to face off, both Cy Young winners in past seasons. Look to propel their team to an early series lead.

Dallas Keuchel- In his 3 postseason starts this year, Keuchel has gone 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA with 25 SO and a WHIP of 1.10. The strikeouts are what amaze me the most. Averaging 8 Ks a game is going to give this LA line up a tough time. Keuchel has gone an average of 6 innings in each of his starts. I expect him to go a little farther,

Final Line (Prediction)- 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB and 7 SO.

Clayton Kershaw- Kershaw is doing Kershaw things when it comes to the postseason. Not playing like Kershaw, that may sound a tad weird. However, Kershaw never seems to be his regular season self when in the post. Although he is 2-0, he holds an uncharacteristic 3.63 ERA with a 0.98 WHIP.

Final Line (Prediction)- 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB and 5 SO

Offensive matchup

Both of these team have an incredible line up 1-9. Both teams can give you a hard out around every corner. Yet, who has the advantage in this matchup of Goliath’s? Leading in almost every major offensive coordinator, the Astros seem to have the superior lineup. Leading the league in; AVG, RBIs, R, OBP, SLG, OPS, H, and 2B. Although every single category, they lead in. It is a dramatic lead over the next team behind them. After looking over the Dodgers offensive rankings. They ranked in the top 15 for most of the categories.

Although no matter the stats, no matter what had happened in the past up until tomorrows game. This is Baseball and anything can happen. So, let’s get ready for what we all hope is another great Fall Classic. And that the Astros prepare properly for Kershaw tomorrow.
