Justin Verlander Looks To Settle The Score

After a tough game 1 loss, Justin Verlander looks to even up the series at a game a piece. With how poorly the Astros have played on the road this year. A split is an absolute must if they have any hope of winning this World Series. And there is no one else better to have on the bump right now than Justin Verlander. Who since coming from Detroit has seemed to forget the meaning of the word losing. Although the Houston line up has their work cut out for them. In veteran left-hander Rich Hill, who at an older age has still been able to produce consistently.

Pitching Match up

Justin Verlander

Having one of the most dominant pitching performances seen in the playoffs. Justin Verlander looks to keep his impressive streak of quality starts going. Going 4-0 with an eye-popping 1.46 ERA striking out 24 batters finishing it off with a WHIP of 0.93. Going 9 innings in his first start in the ALCS giving up 1 run on 5 hits. In his last start, Verlander went 7 shutout innings giving up only 5 hits and a walk. A lot of the success could be a product of the great defense behind him. Whatever way you look at it, he has been as dominant as anyone could be.

Final Line(Prediction)- 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB and 6 SO

Rich Hill

An average pitcher in the postseason, Rich Hill doesn’t have the type of numbers that will make you do a double take. Yet he does have a big breaking curveball that can have the same effect on batters as Kershaw’s does. A soft contact ground ball pitcher is exactly what LA needs in such a hot atmosphere. With just two starts this postseason, Hill so far has been either hit or miss. In his first outing, throwing an ERA of 4.50 against ARI. Then throwing a gem with a 1.80 ERA against the Cubs.

Final Line(Prediction)- 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB and 4 SO

The offense was shut down Clayton Kershaw who seemed to have turned a corner when it comes to the postseason. Striking out 11 batters while walking none giving up 1 run on just 3 hits. The Astros are going to have to change their approach. Against a finesse left-hander in Rich Hill, it would be nice to hit Hill hard and hit him early. Not letting him settle in is the biggest part in my mind early on. Come to the 6th inning, the Astros are going to have to have a lead before the bullpen comes in. If they don’t it’s going to be hard for them to score any runs against a pen. That has gone 19 scoreless innings.
