Beltre is the first Domincan to hit 3000

Adrian Beltre has done more than bring laughs and add his crazy antics since making the big leagues as a teenager in 1998. Sunday afternoon, Beltre walked into Globe Life Park on the brink of making history. Just 357, the former teammate of Beltre, Ichiro Suzuki hit a triple to join the club. Adrian Beltre today becomes the 31st Major League and the first Dominican-born player with 3,000 career hits.

For Beltre, missing the season opener was something that hasn’t happened since 2001. Having to start the season on the DL wasn’t something he wanted to and motivated him to get back and help the Rangers ballclub. Going into Sunday’s game Beltre was batting .310 with 13 doubles and 9 home runs over 50 games since joining the team on May 29th.

During the current homestand, Beltre was 10 for 18 pushing his way toward the milestone. He came close Saturday night with a ninth inning at-bat but later discussed how the moment got to him and he was overthinking it.

Beltre stepped to the plate in the bottom of the fourth after striking out in his first at-bat of the day against the Orioles. Beltre with the 3-0 green light on Wade Miley doubles to left field. That punch his ticket into the elusive hit club.

The hit was also his 605th career double tying him with Paul Molitor and Paul Waner for 13th all-time. He also joins club members, Wade Boggs and George Brett as the only members played third the majority of the time.

At 38, Beltre shows few signs of slowing and after today he could add more milestones. Until then, fans enjoy Beltre.

What next? Beltre to Cooperstown looks not too far off in the distance.
