                                 Gold Glove finalists in Boston

After a tough loss in the ALDS, the Boston Red Sox season ended earlier than we wanted it to. The Sox aren’t done having fun just yet, though. Earlier today four Boston Red Sox players were named Gold Glove finalists. Chris Sale, Mookie Betts, Dustin Pedroia and Mitch Moreland all recognized for their superior defensive abilities this season. They hope to take home some hardware to add to the list of awards these guys have. Some are more favorable than others, some seem like a shoo in for a Gold Glove.

Chris Sale

After seeing Sale nominated as a finalists, I was somewhat shocked to see his name, but not all to surprised. He is going up against Marcus Stroman and Alex Cobb. In my eyes Sale has a very good chance at winning the award. Although, besides Sale, Stroman has the next best odds in this race. Chris Sale defensively on the season had 0 errors, a FPCT of 1.000 and 8 put outs on the season. Comparing that to Stroman where he committed 1 error and had a FPCT OF .979, the odds seem to tilt in the favor of Chris Sale, but we will just have to wait and see.

Dustin Pedroia

Dustin Pedroia, is one of the great second basemen in the game today. A man not known to much for his power at the plate, but his consistency with getting on base. Where I think he shines the most is in the field. His has been a top fielder in the game ever since he came into the league. Its hard to imagine him not winning this award. The four time Gold Glove winner has to face off against, Brian Dozier and Ian Kinsler. Kinsler has won 1 other Gold Glove, and Dozier hasn’t won any. I think Pedroia is the obvious choice, but anything can happen in the world of sports.

Mookie Betts

Mookie has already proven himself as one of the best right fielders in the game. He goes up against Aaron Judge and Kole Calhoun. Winning his first Gold Glove last season, Mookie looks to make it back to back years with a Gold Glove worthy season. Just like Pedroias situation, Calhoun is the only other finalist with a Gold Glove. So, like the other, I like Mookies chance at winning yet again.

Mitch Moreland

This is the one I’m not too sure about. Mitch Moreland is a great player, but when it comes to playing first I think of the three finalists, Eric Hosmer has to be the best. Moreland may have the shortest end of the stick, probably behind Carlos Santana. The Gold Glove scenario for the Sox looks good all the way through. Until you get to Moreland, and it’s just hard to see it there.
