Quintana Shines In Cubs Debut

Wade Davis was the only Chicago Cubs player to be named an All-Star and represent the team in Miami this year. Reporters focused their questions toward him about the struggles the Cubs have faced this season. Despite that, Wade spoke highly about his teammates. Wade said, “There’s a lot of good players on that team who will probably be All-Stars after the second half, that type of deal. That’ll be something that happens.” The Chicago Cubs opened the second half by making a cross-town trade for ace Jose Quintana and then second half commenced.

Jose Quintana and the Cubs bats completed the sweep with an 8-0 win over the Orioles.

Orioles Series

Friday, the Cubs needed an Addison Russell homer to overcome the Orioles 8-run comeback to win 9-8. Saturday, Arietta cruised through 6 1/3 innings while the bats stayed hot and scored 10 runs. Cubs won 10-3.

Sunday afternoon, Jose Quintana was scheduled to make his Chicago Cubs debut in Baltimore. Quintana struck out out Adam Jones to begin his game then finished the inning while only throwing eleven pitches.

The Cubs scored 4 runs on hits from Happ, Heyward, and Zobrist. Happ’s was a line drive to center that scored Wilson Contreras and Kyle Schwarber. Quintana went 6 up, 6 down with 3 strikeouts to start the game.

In the top of the Fourth, Kris Bryant hit a deep fly ball to left center for his 19th home run, Jon Jay scored. Cubs lead 6-0.

Jose Quintana continued to cruise through the game allowing 3 hits and no runs over seven innings while striking out 12 with no walks. He moved to 5-8 and lowered his ERA from 4.49 to 4.20 at the end of the game.

The Cubs added a little insurance after a Kris Bryant single, Anthony Rizzo hit his 22nd home run to open the game wide open.

All but Addison Russell had a hit, while Wilson Contreras had his first-career 4-hit game.

Ubaldo Jimenez struggled and surrendered 6 runs on eleven hits over 3 1/3 innings to increase his ERA t0 7.01.

Stat of the Day

According to CSN’s Chris Kamka, Jose Quintana is the first pitcher with 10+ strikeouts and no walks in Cubs debut since Matt Garza 4/3/2011.

Next Series

The Cubs are headed south to face the Atlanta Braves for 3-game series at the new Suntrust Park before heading back to Chicago.

Despite a 16+ tun differential against the Braves last season, they split their 6 games.

After winning three straight games on the road for the first time this season, Cubs are looking continue the hot streak and have a strong second half.
