Mickey Moniak selected 1st overall by the Phillies in 2016 MLB Draft.

With the 1st  pick in the 2016 MLB Draft the Philadelphia Phillies selected Mickey Moniak out of LaCosta Canyon, California.

At number 5 on the prospect list for the 2016 MLB draft, outfielder Mickey Moniak has all the tools needed to breeze through the minor leagues and land himself on a Major League field rather quickly.

Scouts and coaches absolutely love Moniak, and are raving about his tools. John Savage, the head baseball coach of the UCLA Bruins said:

The combination of his bat and his ability to run makes Mickey one of the most dynamic players in the country. He has all of the tools to change a game on both sides of the ball.

His defense is what makes Moniak such a valuable player in the draft.  With his speed, first step quickness and excellent route running he looks to be a solid add to any outfield.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed hitter out of LaCosta Canyon, California  batted .319, 16 doubles, 15 home runs, 60 RBIs and 55 runs scored. He also holds a San Diego Section-record with 12 triples in his high school career.

Some of his strengths are:

*He has a Solid approach at the plate

*Ability to hit to all fields

*Good Line drive hitter

*Plus speed on the base paths and in the field

*Plus defensive player

*off the chart baseball IQ

Some of Moniak’s weaknesses:

*Needs more strength at the plate

*Needs to improve arm strength

Moniak has continued to impress scouts throughout all of baseball with his five tool capabilities and his willingness to improve.  He was named as a 2016 Rawlings- Perfect Game 1st Team All-American and the California- All region 1st team.  He had originally expressed the desire to play for UCLA in the fall, but after finding himself near the top of the 2016 MLB draft he should be seen on a major league field in the near future.
