Rumors Connect Red Sox and Phillies As Possible Trade Partners

As the trade deadline draws near, many teams are starting to test the market. Rumors have surfaced that connect the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies as possible trade partners. The Phillies have surprised a lot of people with their success this season. Their pitching has been great this season but has slowed down a little of late.

The Phillies rank 12th in the majors with a 4.27 ERA but at least one pitcher has caught the eye of the Red Sox. 29 year-old starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson is reportedly being scouted by Boston.

If the Red Sox hope to make the playoffs, they will need to shore up their rotation. That is where Hellickson comes in. He is 6-6 with a 3.92 ERA in 18 starts this season. Hellickson has heated up of late by only giving up two runs in his last two starts.

The Phillies would need young prospects in return for Hellickson but the Red Sox have enough young talent to make that happen. If some more pieces can be thrown in, this could possibly end up as a blockbuster trade.

As the trade deadline draws closer, it will be interesting to see if any deals involving these two teams can take place. It would make sense that these two teams should get together. The Phillies have some good starting pitching that the Red Sox need and the Red Sox have prospects that the Phillies can build around.
