Dale Earnhardt Jr’s Darlington Car Revealed

From Uptown Charlotte earlier today, Dale Earnhardt Jr revealed his throwback paint scheme for the Southern 500 at Darlington. The press conference took place in the NASCAR Hall of Fame, with many fans in attendance.

The car itself is very personal to Jr, it pays homage to his AC Delco paint scheme from his championship seasons in the Busch Series, 1998 and 1999. Fans there in person or tuning in online were surprised to see this paint scheme. Many thought he would run either a throwback to his Budweiser scheme or tribute his father with a GM Goodwrench car.

Earnhardt Jr is in the midst of his final full-time season in NASCAR. He has yet to win this year but does have 4 top 10s. In recent years at Darlington, Dale has had great success. His last 3 starts at the South Carolina track have resulted in 3 top 10s, including 2nd place in 2014. Jr did not compete at Darlington last year due to a concussion sidelining him.

Jr Nation is now eagerly waiting for this year’s Southern 500. The Labor Day classic has been NASCAR’s throwback race for 3 years now. Teams honor drivers of the past with historic paint schemes on their current cars. Only 6 active drivers have won the Southern 500. They include Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, and Martin Truex Jr. Earnhardt’s team, Hendrick Motorsports, has a record 11 wins at Darlington.

This year’s Bojangles Southern 500 from Darlington is going to be run on September 3rd. It is televised on NBCSN, and it will also be the second-to-last regular season race for the NASCAR Cup Series. With stage racing, bonus points, and 5 spots still available, this year’s battle for the Playoffs is sure to make Darlington very entertaining.
