No driver has been faster in Atlanta Motor Speedway’s recent history than Kevin Harvick. Though he has only 1 win at the Georgia track, he has to be considered a favorite for Sunday’s race. Can the hottest driver in Atlanta win the 2018 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500?

Harvick’s Hot Atlanta Stats

In 27 starts at Atlanta, Harvick has 1 win, 6 top fives, 12 top tens, and 971 laps led. In each of his 5 Atlanta races with Stewart-Haas Racing, car number 4 has led over 100 laps.

Harvick’s lone Atlanta win came in his 3rd career start in 2001. This memorable race was the first win for Richard Childress Racing after Dale Earnhardt’s passing in the Daytona 500.

Last year, in particular, was a dominating race for Harvick, leading 292 laps. However, a late race speeding penalty on pit road cost him the win.

What made last year’s performance even more spectacular was that it marked only Harvick’s second race ever in a Ford. In the weeks following the Atlanta loss, Harvick and the rest of SHR felt the growing pains of switching manufacturers.

With a year of racing under the Ford banner, Harvick, Rodney Childers, and the 4 team should be a strong contender on Sunday. If Harvick can win, it would lead to a Playoff berth as well as lots of momentum for the championship.

In conclusion, The Closer Kevin Harvick has been dominant in Atlanta recently. However, bad luck has struck the hottest driver and team in each race. If Harvick can put his car in the right position at the right time Sunday, have solid pit stops and have a sound strategy, then expect to see car number 4 in victory lane.

The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 will be broadcast live from Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, February 25th. Coverage will be on Fox, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio at 2 PM EST.
