Can Truex Win Again in Vegas?

Defending Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. is looking to go back-to-back, by winning again in Las Vegas. Truex started his streak of success in Las Vegas last season, which would lead to his championship. He currently sits 7th in points, which is consequently exactly where he was heading into this race one season ago.

Already this season, the 78 team has had its share of ups and downs. Last week in Atlanta, Car Chief Blake Harris was ejected from the race. The ejection came after the team failed qualifying inspection 3 times, leaving them without a lap. Truex would have to start the race in the back, but made a bad situation good when he was able to finish 5th.

One thing the team has to look forward to is just how good they are on tracks like this. Some call Truex the king of mile-and-a-half race tracks, due to his success on them. Just to prove how good he is, take a look at his stats in 2017, seven of his eight wins came from a 1.5-mile venue.

Not only can he rely on his success at Las Vegas, he can also rely on the manufacturer and team he drives for. Truex first joined Furniture Row Racing in 2014, when he claimed 1 top five and 5 top tens. It wasn’t until 2015 when performance at-the-track began to pick up. Truex also paired up with current Crew Chief, Cole Pearn. The two claimed 8 top fives, 22 top tens, and 1 victory. They also made it to the Championship 4 race, where they finished 12th.

In 2016, the team paired with Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing. They were able to claim 4 wins and lead 1,809 laps that season, a record high at the time for Truex. Even more success would come in 2017, when the team was able to claim 8 wins. They’d also go on to lead 2,253 laps, finish in the top ten 26 times, and win the championship in Miami.

So can Martin get it done this weekend in Vegas?  His stats sure say he can.
