Chase Elliott Looks For First Win At Home

Chase Elliott will make his 79th career start this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.  Many think luck will be on his side as he heads into the race driving the #9 that his dad made so famous.  In his 3rd full-time season at NASCAR’s top level, Chase still hasn’t been able to capture his first win.  Could it come this weekend?

Chase is coming off of an up and down weekend at Daytona.  The team started the race weekend with a win in the second duel, locking them in a solid starting position for the 500.  The good weekend carried on to racing in the top ten just about all race long until his wreck.  While racing for the lead with 19 to go, a bump from Brad Keselowski sent the #9 up, and into the wall.  The crash would take many cars out, including Chase Elliott.

Another reason this weekend would stick out more than others is that he would be in his home state of Georgia.  After the announcement of the switch to the #9 last year, many thought it was fate for him to get his first career win in the car that means so much to his family.  Could it also be fate that he gets his first win in his home state?

Chase’s Atlanta Stats

The Dawsonville, Georgia, native has raced twice in Atlanta over his two seasons in the cup series.  In his rookie season (2016) he was able to finish eighth, and in his second season he was able to better that with a finish of fifth.

Elliott has been so close to victory he could taste it.  Just last season in Dover, Elliott had a huge lead, but wasn’t able to hold off a late charging Kyle Busch on the last lap.  That was just one of his seven career runner up finishes.

It would be an amazing story line if Chase could score his first win, in his home state, driving a number that his family made famous.  Do you think he has a shot?
