Danica Patrick Will Run Daytona 500/Indy 500 Next Year

Emotional Patrick breaks down in tears – “This is my last year as a NASCAR driver”

If you missed today’s press conference, grab a box of tissues.

An emotional Danica Patrick announced that this will be her last year as a full-time NASCAR driver,

But she also said that she will “never say never”

Patrick confirmed that she will driving in the 2018 Daytona 500 and The Indy 500.

When she runs the Daytona 500, she can only run for teams that have less than 4 cars, because no team can field more than 4 cars at that race.

The decision as to what teams she will race for is still under wraps for now.

She also said that there is a mixture of drivers on the track that she likes and does not like.

When asked if she would consider racing at any other tracks besides Daytona and Indy, she said that her agent had tossed around several options.

But when it came to decisions, they had definitely decided on Daytona. Then Patrick asked, “but what about Indy?”

Patrick fought back the tears in a very emotional press conference and said that she wanted to a be a race car driver first and a girl second – that’s how she wanted to be remembered.

Danica thanked Dale and Kelly (Earnhardt) for “nudging” her into the sport

Patrick had also mentioned the loss of crew chief Tony Gibson and several sponsors over the years as why the sport was “not fun anymore”

And if it wasn’t fun, she wasn’t doing it.

Patrick became only the second woman to compete in The Daytona 500 and Indy 500 since Janet Guthrie did it in 1938. She is also the first woman to win the Daytona 500 pole in 2013.
