This weekend the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to Martinsville Speedway for the First Data 500. This is the first race in the NASCAR Playoff’s Round of 8. On Sunday. Denny Hamlin looks to post his sixth win at the track.

Hamlin has been streaking lately as well, with five finishes in the top twelve in the first six Playoff races. Including a fourth, sixth, and fifth in the last three races. So if the 11 team continues to bring competitive cars to the track each weekend they could be dangerous this weekend. Especially since drivers always seem to have a little extra motivation to perform in front of their hometown crowd.

Martinsville also happens to be a track that Hamlin believes he can win each time the Cup Series heads there. Rightfully so. as his hometown track also happens to be one of his best tracks. Hamlin currently has five wins at the Virginia paperclip known as Martinsville, which is second among active drivers. He also holds 12 top-5s and 17 top-10s to his name at the track.

Hamlin’s advanced stats at the track also look just as impressive. He ranks second among active drivers in average finish (10.1), average running position (9.8), and driver rating (106.6). So this weekend look for Hamlin to be a strong contender to be the first driver to punch his ticket to compete for NASCAR’s championship at Homestead.
