Bowyer, Blaney, Suarez, and Elliott Advance into the All Star Race Through The Open.

NASCAR’s All Star night kicked off late Saturday afternoon as three drivers raced their way into the big show and another through fan vote. The Monster Energy Open was a three 20/10 lap segment race to determine the rest of the field.

The first segment saw Clint Bowyer dominate all 20 laps as he took his place into the All Star Race. The 14 started from the pole and never faded. However, some drama happened late as Trevor Bayne got loose and nearly crashed while passing Danica Patrick off of turn 4.

Ryan Blaney dominated the second segment after taking over the lead. The 21 car led all 20 laps despite a late charge from Chase Elliott and raced into the All Star Race. Once again, the stage didn’t come without drama, as Austin Dillion and AJ Almendinger made contact in turn one late. While Dillon drove on despite a save, AJ went to the garage and his night was over.

The final stage however saw the drama at high. Taking two tires on the final pit stops, Landon Cassill led the field back to green. But, he spun the tires on the restart and was taken out by Elliott. The race restarted with Daniel Suarez in the lead. Chase Elliott and Erik Jones put their best challenges for the lead, but Jones got in the grass and spun with 3 to go. Despite another hard challenge by the 24, Suarez hung on to advance.

However, The night won’t be over for Chase Elliott. The driver of the 24 car won the online fan vote over favorites such as Danica Patrick and Reddit backed Matt DiBenedetto. The Monster Energy All Star Race starts after 8pm tonight on FS1.
