Playoff Berths At A Premium For Winless Drivers

winless drivers Pit Stop Post via

There are only five races remaining for winless drivers to capture a spot in this year’s NASCAR playoffs.

Two drivers who currently sit outside the cutoff line with the best shot are Clint Bowyer and Joey Logano.

Bowyer is just 17 points below Matt Kenseth, while Logano sits 69 points below the cut line.

Logano, however, has an encumbered win from Richmond in May. He’s the first to be penalized under the new rule adopted in 2016.

Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott, three of the drivers that would currently be in the playoffs wins or points, are all graduates of the NASCAR Next Initiative.

The following drivers would be in the hunt for the NASCAR Monster Energy Championship if the season ended today:

Drivers Who Have Made The Playoffs

Driver Name # of Wins Playoff Points
Johnson 316
Larson 213
Kyle Busch113
Stenhouse Jr 210
Elliot039 points above Bowyer, 2 points

This list shows the NASCAR Monster Energy drivers who would make it into the playoffs if the season ended today

There are just 3 spots left in this year’s Monster Energy Cup Series championship and the five tracks remaining are:

Watkins Glen, Michigan, Bristol, Darlington and Richmond.

Watkins Glen – second road course of the season. Logano came in 2nd here last year

Michigan – Larson, Elliott, Keselowski and Blaney ran in the top 4 at this track last season

Bristol – Harvick dominated here last year, leading 128 laps. Logano was next closest at just 38 laps

Darlington -The Southern 500 saw Martin Truex win by 0.606 seconds over a dominating Harvick who lead 214 laps.

Richmond – The last race before the playoffs, Hamlin and Truex both led a bunch of laps, but it was Hamlin who tool the lead at lap 322 and did not look back.
